College attended: I attended the School of Hard Knocks….lol. However, there is a lot of truth behind that. I attended several Community Colleges as working as a Chef. Received my Associates of Arts in Communications at Hillsborough Community College.

Sports played: I’ve played sports since I was 3 years old. Soccer, baseball and football during my middle and high school days. Some basketball, golf, and volleyball.

How I Found Crossfit: A friend at the time told me about it back in 2007. So, I did “FRAN” for my first WOD. It happened to be the Workout of the Day on CrossFit’s main page. It took me 14:27 to complete and it kicked my A$$. It humbled me back in 2008, because I thought I was in shape before doing it. Let’s just say that I had much to learn. And haven’t stopped learning ever since. Now, it’s well below 3 minutes. Which is why I love teaching and helping others move more efficiently and get results.

And my current goal is to get my CF-L3 by 2027

Favoritre CrossFit Move: The primary movement that I love is the Front Squat, Handstand Walk, Thruster & I hate running and burpees. But they are necessary in a healthy fitness program.

I have been a middle and high school Health and PE teacher for a number of years.

Your athletic background (did you play competitive sports, college sports)

I’ve been an athlete all my life, playing a bit of all the sports. I was never good enough for college, but just enjoyed being active and competing!

How did you find CrossFit?

In 2015 my husband thought it would be a good hobby for us to try together, and we were hooked from the first class!

Favorite CrossFit move (could be Oly lift, other lift, cardio move, even burpees (if you really love them!)

I love anything barbell, but also love some handstand walks and burpee box get overs (because I feel like a kid running from the cops!)

CrossFit athlete you would most like to WOD with (and for what reason)?

While not really CF anymore, I’d love to workout with Dave Lipson and Camille Leblanc-Bazinet because they are hilarious. I’d also love to workout with Guilherme Malheiros, Rebecca Fuselier, and Elisa Fuliano. So really, I love people that don’t take things so serious, but Throwdown when it’s time!

College attended/Degree/Military Service and what you do now

I attended undergrad at FIU and then went on to law school and graduated in 2014. I worked in different law firms and then prior to the pandemic I moved to Tampa where I’ve been running a tech company ever since.

Your athletic background (did you play competitive sports, college sports

I’ve been heavily involved in martial arts from a young age. Even though its an individual sport it has a strong sense of community and camaraderie. It’s probably why I enjoy CrossFit. I got my blackbelt at 15 and had a fun competitive run where I had 12 Florida State Titles, 3 National Titles, a Collegiate Title, and was part of Team USA from 2015-2016.

How did you find CrossFit?

In the fall of 2022, I was struggling to lose weight. I wasn’t exercising regularly and was looking to make a change. My brother had been doing CrossFit since 2018 and told me to try a class. I looked for boxes in my area and found CrossFit BNI. Best decision ever. The community, the coaching, and the overall positivity not only motivated me to lose weight and get in better shape, but it also pushed me to go get certified as a coach. Now I want to pass on that feeling to others.

Favorite CrossFit move (could be Oly lift, other lift, cardio move, even burpees – if you really love them!)

Pull-ups, front squats, and technically, anything with rowing. I hated that machine when I started but it grew on me!

CrossFit athlete you would most like to WOD with (and for what reason)

Probably Matt Fraser. Not just because he’s a decorated champion in CrossFit but for the insights someone at his level could provide. I recently read his book Hard Work Pays Off. Basically, it emphasized that CrossFit isn’t just about fitness and nutrition, but about mental toughness. I think how we speak to ourselves (during an incredibly tough WOD or life in general) dictates our outcomes. Words like “I can do this” go a long way.

For undergraduate school, I attended Cedarville University, where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree with a Major in Elementary Education, a Minor in Bible, and a Concentration in Spanish. I completed graduate school through Piedmont University, and I earned my Master’s Degree with a Major in Middle Grades English. As a professional educator, I also completed an English for Speakers of Other Languages endorsement program and passed the Physical Education Grades K-12 certification test. My teaching experiences range from 1st and 2nd grade (all subjects) to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade (Language Arts). I am currently a full-time 1st grade Dual Language teacher for Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Your athletic background (did you play competitive sports, college sports.

I started a “Couch to 5K program” at age 27; prior to that, I have no athletic background. I did not take part in any school, community, or competitive sports in grades K-12, and I did not play college sports.

How did you find CrossFit?

When I was 31 years old, the boyfriend I had at that time discovered a local CrossFit gym, and we completed an On-Ramp program together.

Favorite CrossFit move (could be Oly lift, other lift, cardio move, even burpees (if you really love them!)).

I really love pistols; they’re fun for me! As for the barbell, I love the Deadlift because I can pull some heavy weight.

CrossFit athlete you would most like to WOD with (and for what reason).

I would like to workout with Denise Moore, who ranked 2nd in the world for the 2024 CrossFit Games Women, 65+, and claimed 1st place for the same division for the United States! As a master’s athlete, I find her so inspiring! Age is truly just a number, and she reminds me that your personal fitness journey does not end as you age up.

Your athletic background (did you play competitive sports, college sports; your certifications – including what CrossFit certs you have

Growing up I played a lot of soccer and basketball, then football and rugby in high school, and in adult leagues.  Im currently working on getting my Level 1 Cert, and Crossfit Oly Cert.

How did you find CrossFit?

While I was in the Army, one of my drill sergeants in basic training told us about Crossfit.  Once I was discharged, I started looking into it a bit more, and joined a local box close to my home for a few months.  Then when I moved to Brandon in 2015 I found Crossfit BNI, and havent looked back since!  My first workout was Fight Gone Bad, and it was the 5 round (championship) version, not the regular 3 round version, and it buried me.  Went out way to hot from the beginning, and died a couple times.  The rest round was not a minute long and I’ll die with that claim LMAO!

Favorite CrossFit move (could be Oly lift, other lift, cardio move, even burpees (if you really love them!)

This may come as a bit of a shock, considering I’m what you consider “fluffy”, but I love gymnastics movements.  Handstand walks, handstand pushups, and bar muscle ups to be more specific.  When it comes to lifting I love the Oly lifts, Clean/Jerk and Snatch.  They’re super technical and happen so quickly that it takes a lot of practice to get efficient and comfortable with the movements.

CrossFit athlete you would most like to WOD with (and for what reason)

Would love to throwdown with Rich Froning and Jason Khalipa.  The first Crossfit Open that I paid attention to had those two throw down in 13.5 and thats what got me hooked!  Besides, who wouldnt want to throw down with some of the Crossfit OG’s!

Your athletic background

I ran track and played basketball all throughout high school. I continued my track career at East Stroudsburg University as a 60-meter, 100 meter, and 200 meter sprinter and a hammer/weight thrower.  During the time of Covid I transferred to Warner and focused on internships and school!

How did you find CrossFit?

I joined a CrossFit gym in my hometown as a freshman/sophomore in high school, but I was not taught the proper ways to do the movements and ended up injuring myself and moving on to more typical weightlifting.  As I got older, graduated college, and began life in the real world, I wanted to find a way to train like an athlete and be a part of a community. Then I found CrossFit BNI, learned how to do CrossFit the proper way and became a part of an AMAZING community and fell in love.

Gymnastic movements: Muscle ups or handstand walks

Olympic Movement: Squat Cleans

B.S. Food and Nutrition

College Attended/Degree/What do you know

After graduating high school, I attended South Dakota State University where I studied Exercise Physiology.  I also studied abroad through the University of Northern Iowa where I lived on the Navy Base in Yokosuka, Japan.  One of my greatest accomplishments while abroad was climbing Mount Fuji.  After returning home from Japan, I finished another semester at SDSU and then transferred to Florida State University and graduated with a B.S. in Food and Nutrition, specializing in Fitness.  After graduating with my Food and Nutrition degree, I became an EMT and worked in a hospital setting where I worked with patients who needed extended therapy to regain their physical fitness such as post stroke, cardiac rehab, physical therapy, and respiratory therapy patients.

Athletic Background

I started my athletic career in elementary school where a friend of mine asked me to run summer track with her.  Little did I know that my Track and Field career would last through college.  I ran the 400m, 800m, and high jumped through high school and continued as a high jumper and 400m runner in college.  I was also a cross country runner and gymnast throughout my middle school and high school athletic careers.

How did you find CrossFit

I was invited by a very sweet friend of mine to attend a CrossFit class at BNI in 2014.  I had just gone through a divorce and she knew that CrossFit would help me regain my energy and get me back into a positive mindset.  After a few classes of lifting weights, running, walking on my hands, meeting like-minded people, and feeling like I could conquer the world again, I haven’t looked back!

Favorite CrossFit move

Any move that includes the barbell!

CrossFit Athlete you would most like to WOD with

My answer pertains to which athletes…and those athletes are the CrossFit athletes that I work out next to every day, those CrossFit athletes that make it to class when they really did not want to go, those CrossFit athletes that pushed themselves to do something they have never done before because they want to be the best version of themselves…those are the CrossFit athletes I would most like to WOD with!

I played volleyball and ran track in middle and high school.  Grew up in an outdoorsy very active family in Nicaragua, fishing, boatingand camping on most weekends.

How did you find CrossFit?

I found CrossFit in 2010 after one of my daughters was prescribed CrossFit to strengthen her back after injuring her back. I was complaining about the lack of variety in the bootcamp classes I was enrolled in at a local gym.  I tried a free class. I was a master athlete back then and 13 years later here I am as a grandmaster athlete loving it still. I would say it was love at first sight.

Favorite CrossFit move (could be Oly lift, other lift, cardio move, even burpees (if you really love them!))

Love burpees.

I have worked out with Annie Thorisdottir within my sight.  No, she did not know I was there but smiled in my direction.  When I was leaving the gym BK Gudmundsson was right there and I had to move around him to get out.

Working out with Brent Fikowski would be fine.  Just fine.
